State colleges: UT-Arlington baseball team tops Utah

The UT-Arlington baseball team pounded out 17 hits and defeated Utah 9-3 on Monday in Arlington, Texas.

Utah starter Tanner Banks (2-2) took the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits in three innings.

Max Schuman hit an RBI single in the eighth inning for Utah (8-7), but the Utes stranded eight runners on base in the game.

Dallas Baptist 8, BYU 3 • The Cougars led 3-1 before the host Patriots rallied for six runs in the sixth inning, with Nash Knight hitting a grand slam.

BYU’s Brandon Kinser got the last-minute start after lefty Hayden Rogers suffered a concussion when he was hit in the face by a batted ball as he was warming up in the bullpen before the game.

Kinser (1-1) took the loss, giving up four runs on eight hits over 51⁄3 innings.

Eric Urrry and Trace Hansen each went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Cougars.

CSU Northridge 7, Utah Valley 1 • Left-hander John Salas pitched a four-hitter as the host Matadors stymied the Wolverines.

Mark Krueger drove in UVU’s only run with a ninth-inning double.
