Portland • DaShaun Wiggins scored 20 points Thursday night, leading Portland State to a 66-59 victory over Weber State.
Davion Berry scored 17 points to lead the Wildcats, who missed a chance to clinch the Big Sky Conference’s regular season championship.
Weber State is 16-11 overall and 13-6 in the league with a game remaining Saturday at Eastern Washington.
Montana is 16-11 overall and 12-7 in the conference with a game remaining at Northern Arizona.
Weber State has already clinched the host role in the conference tournament because of tie-breakers.
The seven-team tournament starts Thursday at the Dee Events Center.
Weber State started miserably against the Vikings.
The Wildcats missed six of their first seven field-goal attempts as well as their first two free throws in the opening five minutes.
Portland State built a an 11-4 lead and stretched it to 19-9 with 8:44 left in the half, when Wildcat coach Randy Rahe gambled and lost.
Berry, who was sidelined with two early fouls, returned to the game, He immediately missed a three-point shot and, 66 seconds after returning, picked up his third foul.
Berry went to the bench again. He ended did not score in the first half, which ended with Portland State owning a 29-17 lead.
Weber State went 5-for-22 from the field in the opening 20 minutes. It also committed 11 turnovers.
In the second half, Berry scored eight points in the first 4:11 and the Wildcats tied the game, 31-31.
It was 45-45 after Richaud Gittens made two free throws with 5:34 remaining, but Portland State followed with a 12-1 run to regain control.
Southern Utah 77, North Dakota 71 • In Cedar City, the Thunderbirds shot over 50 percent from the floor for just their second win of the season. Freshman guard Trey Kennedy led four Thunderbirds in double-digit scoring with 16 points.
BYU 5, Nicholls St. 0 • Cougar sophomore righty Kolton Mahoney threw the seventh no-hitter in BYU history Thursday in Thibodaux, La.
