COLLEGE SKIING • For the first time since 2000, the University of Utah ski team is hosting the NCAA Championships.

The Utes are one of eight teams to qualify a full team of 12 skiers in the events that run Wednesday through Saturday.

"We are a well-balanced team," said Kevin Sweeney, Utah director of skiing. " … Everyone is adjusting … to the very erratic weather we have been having. The race surface is constantly changing. This requires the athletes to adjust strategy. I think this could be an area where our level of experience is a real positive."

Park City Mountain Resort will host the alpine races Wednesday and Friday. Soldier Hollow Resort will host nordic events Thursday and Saturday.

Busch going for two

AUTO RACING • It’s been 10 years since a driver last tried to run both the Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day, a feat so grueling that only Tony Stewart has completed all 1,100 miles.

Now Kurt Busch wants to give "the double" a try and he will have cars capable of winning both races.

He said Tuesday he will try to make the Indianapolis 500 in a fifth entry for Andretti Autosport. Should he make the May 25 race, Busch would then fly to Charlotte Motor Speedway to fulfill his full-time job with Stewart-Haas Racing — a team co-owned by Stewart — in NASCAR’s longest event of the year.
