Tempe, Ariz. • Hannah Flippen went 4-for-5 with two RBIs, and Utah (1-2) exploded for six runs in the top of the seventh inning, but Northwestern responded with a four-run bottom half of the inning to win 12-11 during the Kajikawa Softball Classic on Saturday afternoon.

UT Arlington 3, BYU 2 • In St. George, Megan Arnold hit a second-inning home run and McKenzie St. Clair reached base on all three of her at-bats for the Cougars (2-3), but Arlington hit a walk-off home run in the seventh inning during the Red Desert Classic.

SLCC 11-4, North Idaho College 8-3 • In St. George, 16th-ranked Salt Lake Community College (7-6, 5-3 Scenic West Athletic Conference) swept a doubleheader Saturday.

In Game 1, KyRae Kogianes was 2-for-3 with two home runs. In Game 2, Megan Reed went 3-for-5 with an RBI, and Bailie Nelson had two hits and two RBIs .

Southern Utah 5, Nebraska-Omaha 1; East Carolina 6, Southern Utah 3 • In St. George, the Thunderbirds finished 1-1 on Saturday during the Red Desert Classic.

After losing 6-3 to East Carolina, Southern Utah beat Nebraska-Omaha. Jordan Theurer pithed a complete game, scattering seven hits while striking out seven and walking two.

Men's tennis

Utah 7, Utah State 0 • Slim Hamza won his singles match, and paired with Cedric Willems to prevail at No. 1 doubles, to help the Utes beat the Aggies.

Swimming & diving

Utah 163, Washington State 99 • Traycie Swartz won the 100-meter freestyle (51.49) and the 200 free (1:53.47), and Ashlyn Karosas won the 100 backstroke (57.46) and the 100 butterfly (56.93) in the Utes' final Pac-12 dual of the season.

Track & field

BYU • Deezbaa Whitney placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 63 feet, 3 1/4 inches, while Andrea Nelson Harrison finished third in the championship section of the women's 5K during the New Balance Invitational at The Armory in New York.

SUU • Kayla Kovar earned a trip to the NCAA Indoor Championships in the weight throw with a mark of 55 feet, 10 1/4 inches, which earned her first place at the Mountain T's Invitational in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Gymnastics

SUU • Alyssa Click scored a 9.850 on the bars to help the Thunderbirds earn a season-high 195.700 during a tri-meet in Denver.

Denver was first (196.050) and North Carolina State finished third (194.250).

Skiing

Utah • Mark Engel finished second in men's slalom to help the Utes place fourth at the nine-team New Mexico Invitational.
