Utah State posted its best score of the season but finished last in a four-team meet Sunday in women’s gymnastics action in Davis, Calif.
The Aggies turned in a 194.400, with a 49.275 on vault (which was the second-best vault score in USU history), a 48.775 on bars, a 48.025 on beam and a 48.325 on floor. Stanford won the meet with a score of 197.200, followed by UC Davis with a 195.875 and San Jose State with a 195.400. USU’s Paige Jones tied for first place on vault with a 9.925.
Utah 4, New Mexico 3 • Despite dropping the doubles point, the Utes (3-0) rallied by winning four of six singles matches to hand host New Mexico (7-1) its first loss of the season. Utah’s Slim Hamza earned a 6-5 (6), 6-2 victory over Samir Ifthakar at No. 1 singles, and Ben Tasevac clinched the team victory by defeating Mitch McDaniels 5-6 (4), 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles.
