In the spring, Utah State was the first to make him an offer.

A little less than a year later, Jontrell Rocquemore decided it was time to repay the faith.

The Texas safety committed to the Aggies on Saturday, adding an athletic presence to Utah State's future secondary. He just needed a little time to make sure.

"I had enough time to rethink if I had any doubts," he said. "It's a great place, great surroundings. They really brought me on board."

Rocquemore also reported offers from Sam Houston State, New Mexico and Colorado State, among others.

In Rocquemore, the Aggies add a 6-foot-2 defensive back who can really move and has strong ball skills. For his McKinney team, he intercepted four passes this year out of the team's seven total interceptions while earning all-District honors.

Rocquemore said his future coaches see him as a potential free safety in the future.

"I can move around, I can come down and hit," he said. "I'm good with picks. I think they see me as a good athlete back there."

Rocquemore visited Logan last month and said he was impressed with weight room facilities, and related to both Matt Wells and Luke Wells.

But the biggest factor may have been Utah State's finish to the year. Watching the Aggies go 9-5 with a Poinsettia Bowl win impressed Rocquemore.

"That made a big difference," he said. "They're on the rise, but they're already winning. They have a lot of great players, and I'm excited to be on a team competing for a conference championship."

Rocquemore knows he'll have at least one familiar face in Logan next fall. Julion Pearre, a basketball signee from crosstown McKinney North, is a former AAU teammate of Rocquemore. The two have conferred on social media about going to the same school next year - albeit in different sports.

"I've talked to him about it," he said. "It's good that I'll have someone I already know up there."
