State college basketball: Weber State beats North Dakota

Jordan Richardson scored 16 points and Weber State earned its first road win of the season with a 72-60 victory over North Dakota on Saturday in Grand Forks, N.D.

Weber State (6-6, 3-1 Big Sky) scored the first nine points of the game before North Dakota responded with a 10-0 run of its own.

Weber State began to pull away late in the first half, closing with a 16-6 run for a 36-24 halftime lead. North Dakota (5-9, 2-2) never got closer than being down seven in the second half.

Jeremy Senglin had 15 points for the Wildcats. Davion Berry added 12 and Byron Fulton had 10. Richardson led a 9 of 17 Weber State effort from behind the 3-point line, hitting 4 of his 5 attempts.

Troy Huff scored 17 for North Dakota, making 10 of 11 attempts from the free throw line. Jaron Nash had 14 points and Alonzo Traylor added 10.

Utah Valley 65, Grand Canyon 58 • In Orem, Ben Aird had 21 points and 15 rebounds as Utah Valley reversed a poor first half, beating Grand Canyon in a Western Athletic Conference game. The Antelopes led 30-25 at halftime, after hitting 6 of 8 free throws in the first half while UVU went 0-for-3.

Holton Hunsaker scored 15 points for UVU, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with 12 minutes remaining.

Sacramento St. 77, Southern Utah 49 • In Cedar City, Dylan Garrity scored 21 points as the Hornets (5-8, 1-3) dominated the Thunderbirds (1-11, 0-3) in the Big Sky game.

Southern Utah (1-11, 0-3) opened the game cold, shooting 1 of 9 from the field and committing five turnovers. The Thunderbirds were just 1 of 12 on 3-point attempts. Trey Kennedy led the T-birds with 11 points.

SLCC 90, USU-Eastern 74 • De'Dean Parsons tallied 26 points and 11 rebounds in leading Salt Lake Community College (17-2, 4-1 Scenic West Athletic Conference) to the victory at Bruin Arena.

Women's basketball

BYU 75, Portland 68 • In Portland, Ore., Jennifer Hamson had 21 points and 11 rebounds, Morgan Bailey added 17 points and nine boards, and Kim Beeston scored 15 to lead the Cougars (14-3, 4-2) to the West Coast Conference victory.

SUU 97, Sacramento St. 79 • In Sacramento, Calif., Marissa Robbins scored 16 points to lead six Thunderbirds in double figures as SUU (8-4, 2-1) cruised to the Big Sky Conference rout, shooting 64.7 percent from the floor.

North Dakota 83, Weber St. 72 • In Ogden, Desiree Ramos led Weber State with 21 points, but the Wildcats' rally fell short against the Big Sky leader.

Grand Canyon 88, Utah Valley 51 • In Phoenix, Rhaiah Spooner-Knight led the Wolverines with 10 points in the loss.

SLCC 82, USU-Eastern 63 • Natalie Parsons scored a game-high 22 points for the host Bruins (16-4, 5-0 SWAC).
