college basketball • Arizona has moved up one spot to No. 1 in The Associated Press' college basketball poll, the Wildcats' first top ranking since 2003.

Arizona (9-0) was a runaway choice at No. 1, receiving 63 first-place votes from the 65-member national media panel Monday. The Wildcats were sixth in the preseason Top 25, and their climb has been highlighted by wins over San Diego State and Duke.

Syracuse, which got the other first-place votes, and Ohio State moved up two places to second and third, while Wisconsin jumped four spots to fourth. Michigan State, which had been No. 1 for three weeks, dropped to fifth after losing 79-65 at home to North Carolina.

• In Iowa City, Iowa, Gabe Olaseni tied a career high with 14 points and had 10 rebounds as No. 23 Iowa blew past Fairleigh Dickinson 92-59. Melsahn Basabe had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Hawkeyes (10-1).

Formula One changes rules

auto racing • Formula One will award double points for the last race of the season starting next year. In another rule change, drivers will be given permanent numbers. The governing body of motor sports said Monday in Paris that doubling the points for drivers and teams in the last race on the calendar will "maximize focus on the championship until the end" as it becomes less likely the title will already be decided. This year, Sebastian Vettel clinched his fourth straight driver title with three races to go.

Drivers will be allowed to choose a number to put on their cars for their entire career. Under the current system, last year's team placings determine the numbers. The reigning champion will still be given No. 1. And starting in 2015, a cost cap for teams will be introduced
