Utah's run through the NCAA volleyball tournament has come to an abrupt end at the hands of Penn State.

The Nittany Lions took all three games from the Utes — 25-14, 25-15, 25-11 — in a match in which Utah could never gain its footing.

As a result, the Utes' season comes to an end, but not without a ton of momentum. Utah made the tournament for the first time since 2008, and advanced to the second round with a win over Yale on Friday night.

But Penn State is one of the best teams in the country, and its size and athleticism at the net proved to be too much for the Utes.

Utah, which finishes 21-13, will return many key players next year as it tries to make another postseason run.

Erin Redd-Brandon led Utah with 12 kills. Kalee Kirby had 14 assists and Morgan Odale had nine digs.

For Penn State, which now advances to the NCAA regionals, Micha Hancock had 32 assists and Megan Courtney had 17 kills.
