Foxborough, Mass. • The New England Patriots have re-signed wide receiver Austin Collie.

Collie played four games this season before being released after hurting his knee in a 55-31 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Nov. 3. He had three catches after signing with the Patriots as a free agent Oct. 3. Two of those came on the winning drive in a 30-27 win over the New Orleans Saints.

Collie spent his other four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, catching 176 passes. He was a productive slot receiver but had at least three concussions since November 2010 and left another game with concussion-like symptoms. He missed three games early last season because of a concussion and played in just one game before rupturing his right patellar tendon.

Collie was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL Draft after playing for Brigham Young University for three seasons.

Around the League writer Marc Sessler said Collie, 28, is a patch for the Patriots with Aaron Dobson battling a foot injury and Kenbrell Thompkins (foot) doubtful for Sunday’s game with the Cleveland Browns. If he’s even active for the game, Collie is likely to see few snaps, Sessler said.
