Northridge, Calif. • Stephan Hicks broke the 1,000-point career plateau, scoring 20 points as Cal State Northridge easily handled Southern Utah, 84-57 Tuesday night.

Hicks became the 17th player in Cal State Northridge history to score more than 1,000 points, accomplishing the feat with 1,018 points in 64 games. Hicks is also the Big West Conference scoring leader, averaging 18.9 points per game.

Stephen Maxwell led Cal State Northridge (5-4), shooting 10 of 14 from the field on his way to a game-high 27 points. He also had a game-high 13 rebounds. The Matadors had a 48-26 rebounding advantage over Southern Utah (1-5).

Maxwell's layup with 12:37 remaining in the first half gave Cal State Northridge a 14-12 lead, and the Matadors led the rest of the way.

Trey Kennedy scored 17 points, and Casey Oliverson added 10 to lead Southern Utah.
