Dallas • Another comeback comes up short.

The Utah Jazz, behind the play of Diante Garrett, Jeremy Evans and Marvin Williams, slashed a 28-point Mavericks lead down to just five in the fourth quarter Friday night at American Airlines Center.

But Utah never got any closer as Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavericks handed the Jazz their 13th loss of the season.

The final score: 103-93.

Marvin Williams, playing a day after having surgery on his broken nose, scored 19 points off the bench for Utah.

Nowitzki had 18 points and 7 rebounds in the win. Dallas guard Monta Ellis led all scorers with 26 points.

The Jazz next play Sunday in Oklahoma City.
