Ogden• Southern Utah linebacker Matt Holley has been named the Big Sky Conference defensive player of the week, the league announced Monday.

Holley, a junior from Las Vegas, had nine tackles and intercepted two passes in the Thunderbirds' 22-14 win at Montana State on Saturday.

Holley's first interception ended a Bobcat scoring drive. His second interception and nine-yard return set up a touchdown with 5:11 left to play that gave SUU a 22-7 lead.

Sacramento State quarterback Garrett Safron was named the Big Sky's offensive player of the week. UC Davis kicker Brady Stuart received the honor for special teams.
