Harrison, N.J. • Omar Cummings scored in the 104th minute to help the Houston Dynamo advance to the MLS Eastern Conference finals with a 2-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday night.
The Dynamo moved on with an aggregate score of 4-3. The East finals will start on Saturday.
Cummings scored in the second minute of stoppage time on Sunday to give the Dynamo a 2-2 draw in the first leg.
On Wednesday, he got his foot on a ball that slipped past Red Bulls goalie Luis Robles at the near post.
The Red Bulls, winner of the Supporters' Shield as the team with the league's best record, led in both semifinal games.
On Wednesday, Bradley Wright-Phillips scored in the 23rd minute to give New York a 1-0 lead before Brad Davis tied it for Houston in the 36th minute.
It stayed that way until Kofi Sarkodie crossed a ball into the box that was headed down by Cam Weaver. Cummings managed to get his foot on it and put it past Robles.
The Red Bulls dominated Houston during the regular season, winning all three matches. But the Dynamo extended New York's playoff futility, making the Red Bulls winless in their past six playoff games. The Red Bulls had come into the playoffs with an eight-game unbeaten string of 6-0-2.
Sporting KC 3, Revolution 1, OT (Sporting KC advances on aggregate 4-3) • In Kansas City, Kan., Claudio Bieler scored in the 23rd minute of overtime, capping Sporting Kansas City's 3-1 win over the New England Revolution and giving Sporting K.C. the series victory in the Eastern Conference semifinals on Wednesday night.
Defenders Aurelien Collin and Seth Sinovic also scored for Sporting, who will open the conference finals against Houston on Saturday.
The two-match, total-goals semifinal series went to overtime after Sinovic scored for Sporting in the 79th minute, giving Kansas City a 2-1 advantage in its home leg and tying the aggregate at 3-all.
Sinovic's goal was only the second of his career, both in postseason play. The first came last year in Sporting's East semifinal series loss to Houston.
Collin knocked in a deflection in the 41st minute for his second goal of the postseason, but Dimitry Imbongo's header off a free kick in the 70th minute tied Wednesday's leg at 1 and put the Revolution up 3-2 on aggregate.
