State colleges: BYU volleyball team loses first West Coast Conference match
Moraga, Calif. • The BYU women's volleyball team lost a five-set match for its first West Coast Conference loss Saturday at Saint Mary's, 25-23, 25-23, 12-25, 22-25, 11-15.
Tambre Haddock led the Cougars with 16 kills, Alexa Gray added 14 kills and Jessica Jardine had 10. Setter Camry Godfrey had 53 assists, and Whitney Young and Kathryn LeCheminant had six blocks apiece.
Weber State 3, Southern Utah 2 • On Saturday night in Ogden, the Wildcats bounced back after losing the first two sets to the Thunderbirds to win 16-25, 22-25, 30-28, 28-26, 19-17. Audrey Biggs (16 kills and 14 digs) led the way for Weber State; Katie Harvey added 10 kills. SUU's Kylie Schofield had a match-high 17 kills; Ann Clappier added 11 kills for the Thunderbirds, and Taylor Heine and Alissa Youart had 10 each.
Utah State 3, UNLV 1 • The Aggies got a whopping 21 kills from Elle Brainard as they beat the Rebels in Logan on Saturday night to improve to 14-7 overall and into a tie with UNLV at 7-3 in Mountain West Conference play.
Three other Utah State players hit double-digits in kills: Rachel Orr had 14, Tumua Etimani had 12 and Kaitlyn VanHoff added 10.
Utah Valley 3, Seattle U. 0 • The Wolverines (14-12, 8-3 WAC) moved into sole possession of second place in the Western Athletic Conference with the home sweep. Senior setter Brookelyn Hall became just the second player in school history to amass 4,000 career assists.
SLCC 3, S. Idaho 2 • With the five-set win (23-25, 25-21, 25-27, 25-18, 15-13) at Bruin Arena, Salt Lake Community College (20-6, 8-0 SWAC) clinched hosting rights for the Region 18 Volleyball Championships starting Nov. 8. Bruin outside hitter Carol Grasso had a match-high 20 kills, Bailee Kendall added 17 kills and setter Baylie Henrie had 54 assists and 20 digs.
Westminster 3, Carroll 2 • The Griffins killed their way to a five-set home win Saturday (18-25, 33-31, 21-25, 25-17, 15-11); their 75 kills were a season-high and fifth-most in school history. Westminster improved to 13-12, 7-5 in Frontier Conference play. Alexis Aalona had 22 kills and 16 digs for the Griffins, and Jovana Sisovic (17) and Alyse Horton (16) had career-highs in kills.
Snow 3, N. Idaho 2 • In Ephraim, the Badgers improved to 15-9 overall by beating North Idaho College in five sets, 25-13, 22-25, 23-25, 25-23, 11-15.
