Sandy • The chances have been there, but Real Salt Lake is yet to find its way onto the scoreboard in their season finale.

RSL and visiting Chivas USA are knotted 0-0 at halftime at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy.

The home side has picked its spots in threatening the Chivas goal, many of them coming through forward Alvaro Saborio.

In the 28th minute, Saborio's header off a corner from Kyle Beckerman was corralled by Chivas keeper Tim Melia. Six minutes later, Saborio pushed a header wide off a corner kick from Joao Plata.

Midfielder Yordany Alvarez mistimed a header in the 23rd minute, sending his unmarked redirection directly at Melia.

The Goats had their chance in the 16th minute when a counter-attack sprung forward Erick Torres. But RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando was there to punch the header away.

A win over Chivas would secure at least the No. 2 seed in the West. A win would give RSL 56 points, sending the club back into the conversation for the 2013 Supporters' Shield, and tying the frontrunner New York Red Bulls with four days remaining in the final week of MLS regular-season play.

A loss to Chivas would possibly drop RSL to the fourth spot in the West, forcing the club to host the 4-5 matchup of the first-round knockout match on Oct. 30.
