Chips All In, a four-year-old race horse owned by a group from Salt Lake City, will run in the $1 million Breeders Cup Turf Sprint on Nov. 2 at Santa Anita.

Chips All In wasn’t originally nominated for the Breeders Cup, so he had to supplemented to the race for $100,000. One of the owners, Dan Valdez, told The Tribune that the fee has been paid and the horse will run in the Turf Sprint.

Trained by Utah native Jeff Mullins, who is now based in southern California, Chips All In has won seven of his 16 career starts. He’s finished second five times and been worse than fourth only once — when he ran sixth behind eventual 2012 Kentucky Derby winner I’ll Have Another in the Robert Lewis Stakes almost two years ago.

A son of former Epsom Derby winner North Lite, Chips All In has already earned $410,000, which means a victory in the Breeders Cup Turf Sprint would make him a millionaire.

Chips All In comes off a victory in the $101,750 Eddie D. Stakes at Santa Anita, which helped the ownership group decide to supplement him to the Breeders Cup Turf Sprint.

In the Eddie D., Chips All In defeated Boat Trip, Unbridled’s Note and Caracortado. All three of those horses are also expected to run in the Breeders Cup Turf Sprint.
