State colleges: No. 8 Stanford sweeps Utah in volleyball
The No. 8-ranked Stanford women's volleyball team swept Utah 25-17, 25-18, 25-18 on Friday in a Pac-12 match in Palo Alto, Calif.
Morgane Odale had eight kills and 12 digs for Utah (13-4, 2-3), and Chelsey Schofield tallied 13 digs.
Carly Wopat had 10 kills for Stanford (11-3, 4-1).
Sacramento State 3, Weber State 2 • In Ogden, the Hornets prevailed 24-26, 25-17, 29-27, 14-25, 15-12 in the Big Sky Conference match. Rebecca Fuchs led the Wildcats (5-17, 1-7) with 16 kills, while Audrey Biggs notched 13 and Megan Bean added 11.
Montana 3, Southern Utah 0 • In Missoula, Mont., the Grizzlies won the Big Sky match 25-12, 25-25, 25-16.
Westminster 3, Rocky Mountain 0 • Alexis Aalona had 16 kills as the host Griffins won the Frontier Conference match 25-17, 25-18, 25-13.
Southern Utah 0, Portland State 0 • In Portland, Ore., SUU goalkeeper Elyssa Hashimoto made five saves as the Thunderbirds battled to the draw on the road.
Westminster 1, Carroll 1 • In Helena, Mont., Nicole Carter scored in the 88th minute as the Griffins (6-6-2, 1-0-2) salvaged the tie in the Frontier Conference game.
In Las Vegas, BYU's Mayci Jones won two matches to reach the quarterfinals at the USTA/ITA Mountain Region Championships. Jones beat Wyoming's Jessica Parizher 6-2, 6-1, before defeating Colorado's Julyette Steur 6-3, 6-4.
Swimming and diving
Utah 165, Oregon State 95 • In Corvallis, Ore., Traycie Swartz, Petra Soininen and Stina Colleau each won two individual events as the Utah women's team triumphed in its first meet under coach Joe Dykstra.
Swartz won the 100-yard backstroke (56.42 seconds) and the 100 free (52.02); Soininen won the 100 butterfly (56.20) and 200 fly (2:03.22); and Colleau won the 100 breastsroke (1:04.38) and 200 breast (2:17.82).
Westminster 74, Alberta 73 • In Calgary, Alberta, Tallon Robertson and Blake Skidmore scored 23 points each to lead the Griffins (2-0) to the win.
