College football: Weber hopes to snap losing streak at Cal Poly
San Luis Obispo, Calif. • Life doesn't get any easier for struggling Weber State.
After five straight losses, the Wildcats travel to Cal Poly on Saturday night to play a team smarting from a defeat that knocked it from the national rankings.
The Mustangs come off a 24-10 loss to Yale, which should put them in a foul mood against Weber State.
Last week, the Wildcats visited sixth-ranked Eastern Washington and lost 41-19.
Offensively, Weber State had its most productive outing since a 50-40 win over Stephen F. Austin in the season opener.
The Wildcats, who had scored 22 points in their previous four games, nearly matched that total against Eastern Washington.
Freshman quarterback Anthony Chipoletti completed 17 of 27 passes for 140 yards and one touchdown.
"It was good to see some of our young guys grow up a little bit against a very good team," said coach Jody Sears. "⦠[But] that consistency thing keeps popping its ugly head."
Sears knows the Wildcats must play better to have a chance against Cal Poly.
"They are one of the best rushing teams in the country," he said. "We are going to have our hands full. [Those] boys really have the triple [option] going. ⦠Our guys are going to have to play good ball and grow up."
