State colleges: Nation's No. 1 volleyball team too much for Utah

The Utah women's volleyball team pushed the nation's top-ranked team in two of the three sets but ultimately succumbed to visiting Washington on Saturday.

The Utes got 11 kills from Shelby Dalton in the 25-23, 25-15, 30-28 loss to the Huskies in a Pac-12 match at the Huntsman Center.

Kaleigh Nelson led Washington (11-1 overall, 3-1 Pac-12) with 13 kills.

The loss dropped Utah to 13-3 overall and 2-2 in the Pac-12.

BYU 3, Loyola Marymount 2 • Tambre Haddock was one of four Cougars to finish with at least 10 kills in the victory in Los Angeles.

Haddock put down 16 kills, while Kathryn LeCheminant, Hannah Robison and Alexa Gray all added 10 in the 23-25, 25-22, 26-24, 15-25, 15-11 win.

Montana State 3, Weber State 0 • The Wildcats lost their ninth match in 10 tries, this one a Big Sky contest in Ogden.

Weber State's 25-22, 28-26, 25-20 loss dropped it to 5-15 overall.

Aubrey Biggs had 10 kills in the loss.

Utah Valley 3, Chicago State 0 • Kalani Norris put down 13 kills to lead the Wolverines past the Cougars in Orem.

The 25-13, 25-14, 26-24 win was UVU's eighth in its last nine matches.

Portland State 3, Southern Utah 0 • Jaklyn Wheeler recorded 13 kills to help the Vikings make quick work of the Thunderbirds in St. George.

SUU's Alissa Youart finished with 10 kills and eight digs in the 25-20, 25-14, 25-20 loss.

SLCC 3, North Idaho 1 • The seventh-ranked Bruins got 14 kills from North Sanpete High graduate Bailee Kendall to earn the conference win in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho.

Davis High grad Baylie Henrie put up 40 assists in the 22-25, 25-23, 25-23, 26-24 win.

Southern Idaho 3, Snow College 1 • Madi Packard's 14 kills weren't enough for the Badgers in Twin Falls, Idaho.

The Badgers dropped their Scenic West Athletic Conference match 25-18, 28-26, 21-25, 25-20.

Football

Dixie State 39, Simon Fraser 12 • Red Storm quarterback Griff Robles accounted for six touchdowns in the lopsided victory in St. George.

Robles, a Spanish Fork High grad, went 13 of 27 for 251 yards and four scores through the air and ran 15 times for 176 yards and two TDs.

J.D. Duncan caught four passes for 96 yards and two scores for Dixie State (2-3).

Women's soccer

Hawaii Hilo 1, Dixie State 0 • Lindsey Poulson converted a penalty kick in the 61st minute for the game's lone goal in St. George.

Stacie Gubler made four saves in goal for the Red Storm.

Men's soccer

Dixie State 3, Hawaii Hilo 3 • Jara Eshete scored in the 90th minute to earn a draw for the Red Storm in St. George.

Joshua Cook and Bobby Schwarzkopf also scored for Dixie State, which fell behind 2-0 before rallying to pull even in the second half.
