Arlington, Texas • Tommy Rees threw for 279 yards and three touchdowns, and Notre Dame made it 5 for 5 in the traveling Shamrock Series with a 37-34 victory against No. 22 Arizona State on Saturday night.
Kyle Brindza kicked three second-half field goals, the go-ahead kick from 25 yards with 3:03 remaining. He tied a Notre Dame record with a 53-yarder that matched the longest in a college game at the $1.2 billion home of the Dallas Cowboys.
It was the second win in Texas in the five-year Shamrock run of home games on the road for the Irish (4-2), starting with a victory over Washington State in San Antonio in 2009.
Taylor Kelly threw for 362 yards and three scores for the Sun Devils (3-2), who missed on a chance to become the first team to beat Southern California and Notre Dame in consecutive weeks.
T.J. Jones had eight catches for 135 yards, including a pair of first-down catches on the drive to the winning field goal. Cam McDaniel, went to school in nearby Coppell, had four straight carries for 32 yards to get Notre Dame in field goal range.
The Irish clinched the win when Dan Fox, who recovered a fumble to set up a touchdown, returned Kelly's second interception 14 yards for a touchdown with 1:08 remaining.
No. 2 Oregon 57, Colorado 16 • In Boulder, Colo., Marcus Mariota threw five touchdown passes and ran for two scores as Oregon routed Colorado. The Ducks' sophomore connected for two touchdowns each with Josh Huff and Bralon Addison, and played only 2½ quarters.
Oregon (5-0, 2-0 Pac-12) has scored at least 55 points in all of its games under first-year coach Mark Helfrich, a former offensive coordinator at Colorado, who took over when Chip Kelly left to coach the Philadelphia Eagles.
Forcing a three-and-out after the opening onside kick, a 75-yard TD toss from receiver Paul Richardson on a double-reverse and a fourth-down stop had the 40-point-underdog Buffaloes (2-2, 0-2) up 10-8 early.
Washington State 44, California 22 • In Berkeley, Calif., Conner Halliday threw for 521 yards and three touchdowns and Washington State used its highest-scoring conference game in 10 years to snap an eight-game skid against California. Vince Mayle caught two TD passes and Teondray Caldwell, Jeremiah Laufasa and Marcus Mason also scored touchdowns for the Cougars (4-2, 2-1 Pac-12), who last beat the Golden Bears (1-4, 0-2) in 2002.
Cal freshman Jared Goff threw for 489 yards and two touchdowns for his third 400-yard passing game already this season and Chris Harper had 13 catches for 216 yards and a score.
But it wasn't enough to give coach Sonny Dykes his first win against an FBS opponent in a disappointing debut season with the Bears.
