Cedar City • Ed Lamb's record as Southern Utah's football coach is 30-30, meaning he can go over .500 on Saturday, when the Thunderbirds host UC Davis.

A big deal?

A winning record at this point in Lamb's tenure at the school would be a major accomplishment considering Southern Utah lost 18 straight games before he took over in 2008.

Lamb, however, probably would prefer beating UC Davis so Southern Utah can improve on this season's record — 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the Big Sky Conference.

The Thunderbirds are off to their best start in 16 years behind the play of a vastly improved defense, which limited Northern Colorado to 4 yards rushing in last week's 27-21 victory over the Bears. —
