The Tour of Utah announced Thursday that the cycling event will expand to a seven-day stage race in 2014.

The Union Cycliste International (UCI) has approved expansion. Earlier Thursday the UCI released its 2014 events calendar for all sanctioned road races on its five global circuits. The 10th edition of the Tour of Utah next year will remain a 2.1-rated stage race on the UCI America Tour.

The 2013 Tour of Utah expanded to Southern Utah for the first time, showcasing the iconic red rock scenery of the region. An estimated 260,000 spectators watched the race in person along the 586-mile route,

The 2014 tour will begin Aug. 4 and finish Aug. 10.
