The Bees are probably getting a little sick of Reno.

Salt Lake has played the Aces eight times since Aug. 21, and after Sunday’s 10-7 loss at Spring Mobile Ballpark, the Bees are only 2-6 in those games.

At a glance

Aces 10, Bees 7

Reno’s Alfredo Marte hits a homer and drives in five runs.

» The Aces score six runs in the second, although only one was earned.

Thankfully, Salt Lake won’t see Reno again beyond Monday afternoon, when the two teams close the regular season.

After that game, the Bees can focus on the PCL divisional playoffs against Las Vegas, which open Wednesday night.

To make noise against the 51s, however, Salt Lake must play better than it has been against Reno, although manager Keith Johnson has been resting some players and setting up his pitching so everyone will be ready for Salt Lake’s first postseason appearance since 2008.

"There were quite a few things that were out of sync today," Johnson said. "But what I like is, no matter how bad things got, our guys competed. … That’s all I care about right now — the level of competition."

The Bees took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Drew Heid walked, Matt Long singled and they advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. After Heid was picked off third by Reno catcher Ed Easley, Tommy Field singled in Long.

The second inning featured a combined 10 runs — six by the Aces — and 10 hits. Salt Lake starter Billy Buckner didn’t survive, although some shoddy fielding was partly to blame for his early departure.

With Reno’s Juan Rivera on first and nobody out, Bees’ second baseman Luis Rodriquez let a possible double-play grounder scoot under his glove.

Instead of two out and nobody on, Reno exploded for six runs, including two on Chris Owings’ double and two on a single by Alfredo Marte.

In the bottom of the second, the Bees countered with four runs. Chance Ross doubled in two and Long tripled home two more, but that’s as close as the Bees got.

Salt Lake had only four hits over the final seven innings.

Before the game, the Bees lost pitcher Ryan Brasier, who was called up by the parent Los Angeles Angels. In 38 relief appearances, he was 5-2 with 10 saves and an earned run average of 4.13.

Owlz 9, Chukars 8 • Michael Fish hit two two-run homers, and Stephen McGee and Eric Aguilera also delivered two-run shots to lead Orem to a Pioneer League victory over visiting Idaho Falls.

Rockies 9, Raptors 2 • Jacob Scavuzzo’s 13th home run of the season was one of the few highlight’s in Ogden’s Pioneer loss at Grand Junction.
