The BYU men's cross-country team is ranked as the No. 4 team in the nation by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The Cougars finished second in the Mountain Region last year and made a strong showing at the 2012 NCAA Championships. Oklahoma State, the defending national champion, was picked as the No. 1 team in the country. The Mountain Region swept the spots two through four, with Northern Arizona and Colorado taking the second and third, respectively.

BYU's season begins Sept. 6 at the Utah Invitational in Salt Lake City's Murray City Park.

BYU women's cross-country was ranked as the No. 7 team in the Mountain Region, while the Utah State men's cross country team was ranked 12th. The Aggie men and women open their 2013 season on Saturday, hosting the Aggie Invitational.

Additionally, Utah Valley was ranked seventh regionally and Southern Utah was 10th.
