The Royals' family will be relying heavily on its princes this year.
Roy High lost its defensive front seven to graduation, and its incoming senior class is only about 15 players deep. So Roy will need a lot of help from its youngsters if it hopes to build on its 6-4 season of a year ago.
Assistant coach Eric Jones said Skyle Hoover, who played linebacker last year, has bulked up and could be an impact player at defensive end.
On offense, the Royals have junior Tyler Skidmore, a three-year starter, running the offense at quarterback.
"He's a good quarterback a lot of people don't know about," Jones said.
Skidmore passed for nearly 1,500 yards as a sophomore last year, and he should have a decent stable of skill players to help him out this season.
"But the problem with Roy High football," Jones said, "is that a lot of our skill guys on offense are also our skill guys on defense."
The Royals could play as many as eight players extended minutes both ways. —
