Gymnastics • Simone Biles won the U.S. women's gymnastics title Saturday night, edging Kyla Ross.

The 16-year-old Biles put together a two-day score of 120.450, just ahead of the 120.250 posted by Ross.

Brenna Dowell was third, followed by Peyton Ernst and Maggie Nichols. All three, like the rest of the field, were well behind the world-class efforts put together by Biles and Ross.

Two-time Olympic medalist McKayla Maroney easily won her second national title in vault as she gears up for the world championships in Belgium this fall.

Biles took control of the meet during the preliminary round on Thursday and never trailed in the finals, overcoming a miscue on uneven bars to reach the top of the podium.

Ross had a chance heading into beam, her final event. Needing to post a 15.450 to tie Biles after Biles briefly lost momentum in her bars routine, Ross nearly went out and did it. A small wobble at the end that included Ross flailing her arms to maintain her balance gave Biles enough wiggle room to survive.

Bolt wins 3rd straight world title in 200

Track and field • When Usain Bolt means business, he is still all alone out there.

Bolt coasted to his third straight 200-meter world title Saturday in Moscow, with the race basically wrapped as soon as he entered the finishing straight.

Jamaican teammate Warren Weir never got close to Bolt's world-leading mark of 19.66 seconds, but crossing .13 seconds later for silver still left him enough time to join him in a reggae dance to Bob Marley's "Three Little Birds."

"The energy was great tonight," Bolt said. "The crowd was into it."

Curtis Mitchell of the United States took bronze in 20.24 but was never in the hunt for gold.

His seventh world title leaves him one shy of American greats Carl Lewis and Michael Johnson, who lead the overall gold medal standings in the 30-year history of the event. On Sunday, Bolt can pull alongside them, even though he is only 26.

Brianna Rollins is the new standard in the 100-meter hurdles, beating Olympic champion Sally Pearson of Australia for the gold medal. That despite an extremely slow start. Heading into Sunday, the Americans lead the standings with 20 medals overall. But the Russians hold a 7-6 edge in gold and have 15 overall. The Jamaicans are third with 10, which includes two each by Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Bolt.
