NFL • A cousin of a former New England Patriots player charged with murder has been jailed in Massachusetts.

A Suffolk County Sheriff's Department spokesman says Tanya Cummings-Singleton has been in custody since Aug. 1 but won't say why.

Bristol District Attorney Sam Sutter's spokesman said Friday he couldn't comment on anything related to a closed grand jury proceeding. Sutter's office is prosecuting Cummings-Singleton's cousin Aaron Hernandez in the death of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd.

Tennis • Top-seeded Serena Williams eased into the Rogers Cup semifinals Friday night in Toronto, overpowering Slovakia's Magdalena Rybarikova 6-1, 6-1.

Williams had seven aces and finished off Rybarikova in 60 minutes, 5 seconds.
