A walk-off single by newly acquired Salt Lake Bees infielder Grant Green lifted the Bees over the Iowa Cubs 5-4 on Friday night in front of 7,671 fans at Spring Mobile Ballpark.

The win is the 10th in a row for the Bees at home and keeps them in first place in the Pacific Northern division with a record of 65-49.

Green was just 1 for 4 for the game, but his only hit was the game-winner for Salt Lake. With one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, he hit a line drive towards Cubs second baseman Logan Watkins. Watkins got a glove on the high liner but couldn't bring it down, allowing Drew Heid to easily cross the plate with the winning run.

Cory Rasmus (1-0) earned the win for Salt Lake, while Brian Schlitter (1-3) took the loss for Iowa.

The Angels acquired Green from Oakland just before the July 31 trade deadline. A collegiate shortstop who has played mostly at second base in the minors, he made just his 12th professional start at third base on Friday night, and his first start at the position since the 2012 season.

"I think it's the organization's decision," Green said in reference to switching to third base. "They got a great middle infield up there — it would be tough for any one guy in the minor leagues or even in the big leagues to break through with [Erick] Aybar and [Howie] Kendrick there."

Green broke through for a stint in Oakland, making his major league debut while playing in five games with the A's this July. But he was hitless in 15 at-bats with the senior club, although he drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in a win against Houston.

But the 25-year-old Anaheim native and University of Southern California alum is excited to be in his hometown team's organization and the prospect of getting his first major league hit in front of friends and family.

"I was a huge Giants fan growing up," Green said. "But you know the Angels being the close team, every single time I went to the game it was the Angels. … Being able to put on that uniform's going to be a little bit different than just sitting in the stands and cheering."

For now, he's focused on his time here in Salt Lake and doing what he needs to do to get back to the majors. Walk-off hits like Friday night should only help.
