Tooele • A Barron overthrew the reigning king in the Pro 4 Class of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series on Sunday.

Eric Barron of Borona, Calif., won a sprint to the finish line at Miller Motorsports Park to snap Carl Renezeder's record-setting nine-race winning streak.

Barron prevailed by less than three-tenths of a second over Renezeder in a wild race that featured four yellow flags over the final five laps.

Rob MacCachren ended up third while Jerry Daughtery of Riverton finished fourth.

"It was an awesome dogfight," said Barron, who was thrilled to become the first driver this season to defeat Renezeder.

"I love to break winning streaks because I love to win," he said.

The first 11 of the race's 16 laps were run smoothly, with Greg Adler of Manhattan Beach, Calif., leading most of the way.

Then the epidemic of yellow flags began.

Adler rolled his truck twice in a span of three laps and eventually had to retire from the race. Another bumping incident involved the two leaders, Barron and Renezeder.

The race ended up coming down to one last restart on the final lap.

With the field bunched again, Barron barely beat Renezeder into the first turn before the two drivers found themselves side-by-side coming out of Turn 2.

Renezeder appeared to inch ahead midway through the final lap, but Barron was able to hold his position and regain the lead as the front-running duo turned for the checkered flag.

In a sprint to the finish, Barron held on to win by 0.275 seconds.

"Awesome last lap — a lot of commotion," Barron said. " But you know what? We just put our head down and got the job done.

"I had my crew on the radio and they said, 'Just run the fastest lap you can.' And we did. We put it all together and ran our best lap."

Barron knew Renezeder was waiting to pounce if he made any mistakes.

"I could hear him," Barron said. "He gave me a good run. But I don't come out here to race my myself. These guys were all over me, but that's what it's all about."

In defeat, Renezeder admitted he enjoyed the drag race to the finish line.

"That was a crazy race, with all the yellow flags and stuff," he said. "But that last lap, that's why I do this."

Meanwhile, in the other three classes, MacCachren edged Renezeder in the Pro 2s, Geoffrey Cooley of Santee, Calif., won Pro Buggy and Sheldon Creed of Alpine, Calif., won the Pro Lites. —
