Laramie, Wyo. • The University of Wyoming has self-reported possible violations that occurred in its women's volleyball program under former coach Carrie Yerty.
UW notified the NCAA that five volleyball players received improper benefits over a two-year period. The illegal benefits included providing used household items and furnishings and assistance in securing housing for players. UW estimated the total value at about $1,500.
The school's investigation also found that a student manager in the program participated as a practice player during the 2011-12 season.
The NCAA will conduct its own inquiry and impose any sanctions, which could include loss of scholarships and recruiting restrictions.
Yerty abruptly resigned on May 3 after five seasons with an overall 82-70 team record.
UW has since hired former Georgia Southern coach Chad Callihan to replace Yerty.
