Yanks GM: 'Leaning' toward putting Teixeira on DL

New York • Slumping Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira could be heading back to the disabled list.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman says he's leaning toward putting Teixeira on the DL. Cashman spoke on a conference call Monday, an off-day for New York before its hosts the Los Angeles Dodgers in a two-game series.

Teixeira missed the first 53 games of the season because of an injured right wrist. The All-Star slugger is hitting just .151 with three home runs and 12 RBIs in 53 at-bats.

The 33-year-old Teixeira left the team during its recent West Coast trip, returned to New York and got a cortisone shot Sunday. Cashman said Teixeira probably wouldn't be able to play for at least a week.

Cashman says he can't rule out that Teixeira might need surgery to fix his wrist.
