Women's basketball: 3 Utahns to play for Westminster
Three Utah natives, Katie Panushka, Katie Richens and Lancee Whetman, have signed letters of intent to play women's basketball for Westminster.
Panushka, a 5-foot-9 guard, played high school basketball for St. Joseph Catholic School in Ogden and helped lead the Jayhawks to back-to-back Utah 1A state championships. She named the 1A MVP by The Salt Lake Tribune. As a senior, Panushka averaged 12.4 points per game while also recording 3.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 2.5 rebounds.
Richens, a 5-foot-8 guard from Roosevelt, spent one season with Alaska-Anchorage and another at Salt Lake Community College. At Roosevelt High she was twice named a first team all-state selection and was the 3A MVP her junior year. This past season, Richens averaged 9.1 points a game with SLCC. She led the team with 41 steals and was second with 77 assists.
Whetman attended Juan Diego. The 6-foot forward averaged 10.8 points per game as a senior and helped the Soaring Eagle to a 19-3 overall record and the Region 10 title. She scored in double figures 10 times as a senior and twice had at least 20 points.
