Real Salt Lake: RSL draws with Chicago Fire
Sandy • Alvaro Saborio's return to action was almost perfect.
After missing five matches due to injury, the forward came on as a second-half substitute and got a 78th minute goal to put RSL up 1-0.
But the Chicago Fire scored a late equalizer from Quincy Amarikwa to play spoiler.
Chicago Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson put a damper on Real Salt Lake's homecoming for most of the night.
The netminder's saves have kept RSL off the scoreboard despite a number of quality chances. The two teams are deadlocked, with no goals as they head into the locker rooms.
In the 22nd minute, RSL midfielder Ned Grabavoy supplied a back heel pass to Kyle Beckerman inside the box but Beckerman's shot went straight in to Johnson's arms. Minutes later, Salt Lake forward Joao Plata fired from outside the box and Johnson laid out to make the save.
In the 29th minute, Grabavoy found Plata wide to the left. The forward rewarded Grabavoy with a perfect pass onto his head, but the header from 12-yards out was again saved.
After a Javier Morales giveaway, Chicago's Patrick Nyarko was in on goal for the Fire's best chance of the opening half. But center back Carlos Salcedo, making his second start in two games, slid in for a critical tackle.
