The University of Wisconsin softball team beat BYU 6-0 on Friday, and the Cougars' season ended with their second straight loss in the Eugene (Ore.) Regional.

BYU (33-25) had just two hits — singles by Bailie Hicken and Madisen Robb in the first two innings — in the loss to the Big Ten Conference tournament champions.

BYU starter Tori Almond (12-8) took the loss, giving up three runs on three hits over 21⁄3 innings.

The Cougars lost their opener to host Oregon, 5-2, on Thursday in the double-elimination tournament.

Cassandra Darrah (27-6) earned the win for Wisconsin (43-12), recording four strikeouts while giving up two hits in six innings.

SLCC 12, Chipola 0; Wallace State 8, SLCC 1 • In St. George, Salt Lake Community College split a pair of games in the NJCAA tournament. The Bruins' MaCauley Flint pitched a one-hitter with nine strikeouts in the first game, while Maddy Woodward and Whitney hold each drove in four runs. Lauren Hager drove in SLCC's only run in the loss to Wallace State.

The Bruins must win three straight games Saturday to claim the national title. They will play Pima at 10 a.m., and the winner of that game will advance to face Wallace State.

Baseball

BYU 6, Saint Mary's 2 • In Provo, Jacob Hannemann and Adam Law each went 2 for 4 with two RBIs as the Cougars (29-19, 14-9) clinched a spot in the West Coast Conference tournament. BYU starter Jeff Barker (5-3) earned the win, holding the Gaels to two runs on five hits over 51⁄3 innings.

The loss eliminated Saint Mary's (21-33, 11-12) from tournament consideration.

"The pressure was on Saint Mary's; they had to sweep us or they had to scoreboard watch," BYU coach Mike Littlewood said. "I'm glad we finished it tonight. I can't say enough about the overall attitude of our team there was no anxiety, no tension, they wanted to get it done in two games. Now our next goal is to try to get the three seed."

BYU will try to complete a sweep against Saint Mary's (21-33, 11-12) Saturday, starting at 1 p.m.

Texas-Pan American 3-6, Utah Valley 1-5 • In Edinburg, Texas, Spencer Gothberg ripped a seventh-inning, pinch-hit homer for UVU's only run in the opener. In the second game, the Broncos scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning for the win.
