Oregon beat BYU 5-2 in their opening game of the NCAA softball tournament Thursday.
The Cougars outhit the Ducks 7-4 but didn't score after a two-run second inning. The Ducks jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first and added insurance runs in the fourth and fifth.
Tori Almond took the loss for BYU, allowing three earned runs. Carly Duckworth led the Cougars with two hits and two RBIs.
SLCC 10, Weatherford College 2 • The Bruins won in five innings in St. George, routing their No. 10-seeded opponent in the championship bracket of the NJCAA Division I Softball National Championship Tournament. No. 2 seed SLCC scored three runs in the second inning to take the lead, and Maddy Woodard's two-run walk-off double capped a four-run fifth inning. MaCauley Flint pitched all five innings and had eight strikeouts. SLCC will advance to the championship bracket semifinal to play Chipola College on Friday.
BYU 11, Saint Mary's 1 • The Cougars trumped the Gaels, nearly shutting them out in Provo. Saint Mary's had 10 hits but managed just one run, and BYU poured in 16 hits while taking advantage of three Gaels errors.
Texas-Pan American 13, Utah Valley 0 • The Wolverines were shut out in Edinburg, Texas, where they opened their final Great West Conference series. UVU managed just two hits against UTPA in the game, which was shortened to seven innings.
Men's golf
Utah Valley's Mason Casper shot a 4-under 68 to tie for 18th in the opening round of the NCAA Regional in Pullman, Wash.

Westminster 9, St. John's 8 • The Griffins won in three overtimes in Greenville, S.C., to advance to the championship game of the MCLA national tournament.
