Miami • Marlins catcher Jeff Mathis has been activated from the disabled list after recovering from a broken right collarbone that caused him to miss the first six weeks of the season.

Mathis, a former Salt Lake Bee, was acquired November in the trade that sent shortstop Jose Reyes and four others to Toronto. Mathis was injured in the first spring training game in February.

A .198 career hitter, Mathis joins a roster that includes two other catchers, Rob Brantly and Miguel Olivo. He fills a vacancy created when catcher Kyle Skipworth was optioned Sunday to Triple-A New Orleans.
