After four seasons and helping restart the program, Tina Johnson has announced she is stepping down as head coach of the Weber State softball team. Johnson's resignation is effective immediately.

Johnson was named head coach of the Wildcats in July 2008, becoming the fourth coach in WSU history. She spent four seasons as head coach, beginning with the 2010 season, the first year softball was brought back to Weber State after a 27-year absence.

"Deciding to leave is a very difficult decision to make, but with recent family events, I feel the timing is now," Johnson said. "I want to thank the administration at Weber State for giving me the opportunity to restart, build and coach the softball program. It's been a great experience and starting this program from scratch was one of the biggest challenges of my coaching career. I've loved working here and coaching the student-athletes. I believe there are great things in place for the Weber State softball program and players.

In 2012, Johnson guided the Wildcats to a 21-win season and set or tied 19 team or individual single-season and career records. Weber State finished in a tie for second place in the Pacific Coast Conference's Mountain Division and senior Lyndsey Minnich was named PCSC's Mountain Division Player of the Year.
