Baton Rouge, La. • LSU running back Jeremy Hill met with a judge in Baton Rouge on Tuesday and received more restrictive conditions for his probation in the wake of his recent arrest in a bar fight.
Hill already was on probation from a past plea deal when he was arrested and booked with misdemeanor simple battery early on April 27, shortly after police received a mobile phone video that showed Hill punching another man in the side of the head.
Under new conditions set by state District Judge Bonnie Jackson, Hill must stay out of bars and adhere to a 9 p.m.-to-6 a.m curfew. He also must receive a substance abuse evaluation and seek any recommended treatment, East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore said.
Prosecutors have not yet sought a probation revocation hearing, but anticipate seeking one after the legal process has played out further, Moore said.
Defense lawyer Marci Blaize said Hill is "taking the situation very seriously."
"Right now we're trying to maintain the status quo and abide by the conditions of his probation, including the new conditions set forth today," Blaize said.
LSU coach Les Miles has indefinitely suspended Hill, who is free on bond. Miles has said he does not intend to comment further on Hill's long-term future with the Tigers until after the legal resolution of the matter.
Blaize has portrayed Hill as being provoked, asserting that the video, which she has reviewed but which is not public record at this time, does not capture interaction between Hill and others which led to the exchange of blows. Blaize also has said Hill was heckled about several things, including his previous arrest stemming from a sexual relationship with a then-14-year-old girl at his high school, when Hill was 18.
Hill pleaded guilty in that matter to carnal knowledge of a juvenile, received a six-month suspended sentence and two years' probation, allowing him to enroll at LSU and play football last season.
Hill, 20, was LSU's leading rusher with 755 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2012, his freshman season, emerging after season-opening starter Alfred Blue went out with a season-ending knee injury in LSU's third game.
Police say the video which captured Hill throwing a punch also shows Hill's target being knocked out seconds later by another man, 20-year-old Robert Bayardo. He was arrested Friday and booked with felony second-degree battery.
Police said the video shows Bayardo and Hill exchanging a "high-five" after the fight, but Bayardo is not an LSU student and Blaize said Hill does not know Bayardo.
