The Los Angeles Angels assigned Brad Hawpe to Triple-A Salt Lake from extended spring training. To make room on the Bees' roster, infielder Chance Ross was reassigned to extended spring training.

Hawpe, 33, hit .260 during the 2012 season with the Frisco Roughriders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers.

In eight major league seasons, Hawpe batted .276 with 124 home runs, 176 doubles and 490 RBI, most of which came with the Colorado Rockies. Hawpe was selected to the 2009 Major League All-Star Game. The Fort Worth, Texas, native has also played for the Tampa Bay Rays and San Diego Padres.
