Salt Lake held the Padres scoreless in their series opener in Tucson, Ariz., winning 4-0 on Tuesday.

The Bees had 10 hits, twice as many as the Padres, and were led by Chris Snyder, who had two hits and two RBIs.

Snyder started off the scoring with a home run in the top of the fourth inning. The score stayed at 1-0 until the seventh inning, when Salt Lake's Tommy Field drove in John Hester on a sacrifice fly. Luis Rodriguez added an RBI with a line-drive single to knock in Matt Young. After Efren Navarro reached base on a fielding error by Tucson second basemen Dean Anna, Snyder earned his second RBI with a fly ball that sent Rodriguez home. Tuesday's game increased Snyder's team-leading RBI total to 15.

Billy Buckner (2-0, 2.55 ERA) earned the win for Salt Lake (10-3) after allowing five hits in seven innings. He also had eight strikeouts and one walk.

Salt Lake relievers Fernando Cabrera and Michael Kohn completed the shutout.

Tim Stauffer, who allowed one run and six hits in six innings, took the loss for Tucson (3-9).

The league-leading Bees, who came off a series victory against the Tacoma Rainiers, are now 4-1 on their road trip.

Salt Lake and Tucson will continue their four-game series Wednesday. —
