Tennis • Three-time champion Venus Williams has withdrawn from the Sony Open because of a lower back injury shortly before her third-round match against fellow American Sloane Stephens in Key Biscayne, Fla.

Stephens, who is ranked a career-best 16th and upset Serena Williams at the Australian Open, advanced by walkover Saturday.

On the men's side, Sam Querrey won in his first match as the top-ranked American, rallying past Lukasz Kubot 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 Saturday at the Sony Open.

The 20th-ranked Querrey moved ahead of No. 23 John Isner this week. Querrey lost his first service game but held the rest of the way and hit 12 aces against Kubot.

Penn St. wins NCAA wrestling

College wrestling • Penn State's Quentin Wright upset top-seeded Dustin Kilgore of Kent State to give the Nittany Lions their third straight team title Saturday night in the NCAA wrestling championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

Wright beat Kilgore 8-6 at 197 pounds, giving the Nittany Lions an insurmountable lead over Oklahoma State.
