WNIT: Michelle Plouffe leads Utah to first-round win; Jennifer Hamson leads BYU over Idaho State

Long Beach, Calif. • Michelle Plouffe tallied game highs in points (17) and rebounds (14) to lead Utah over host Long Beach State 56-49 during the first round of WNIT on Wednesday.

Taryn Wicijowski scored 12 points and Iwalani Rodrigues had 10 points for the Utes, who face the winner of Thursday’s game between Hawaii and San Diego in the second round.

BYU 69, Idaho State 54 • Jennifer Hamson scored a career-high 25 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked five shots to lead the Cougars to victory in the first round of the WNIT in Provo.

Haley Steed had 20 points, nine assists and seven rebounds for BYU, which hosts San Diego State in the second round Saturday. Time is yet to be determined.
