Salt Lake Community College's run in the NJCAA National Championships ended Wednesday, when the Bruins fell 87-82 to Central Arizona College in Hutchinson, Kan. Freshman Sai Tummala led the No. 5-ranked Bruins with 20 points and six rebounds, and sophomore Skyler Halford added 19 points.

The teams were tied at halftime, but SLCC missed key free throws in the second half and lost in the second-round contest.

SLCC's shooting percntage topped Central Arizona's, 53.6 percent to 48 percent, but the Bruins and Vaqueros both turned the ball over 17 times.

Baseball

BYU 3, Kansas 0 • The Cougars shut out the Jayhawks in Provo, thanks to starting pitcher Desmond Poulson, who recorded his second complete game of the season. BYU scored all three of its runs in the fifth inning, then held on to snap its four-game losing streak. Jacob Hannemann went 3 for 4 with a triple to knock in the first run of the game.

Women's tennis

BYU 5, Portland 2 • The Cougars won their first conference match of the season, topping the Pilots in Provo. BYU won all three doubles matches.

Softball

Utah Valley 4, Marist 3 • Debra Lovell's 3-for-3 hitting and home run in the fourth inning lifted the Wolverines to a win in Orem. Marist scored all of its runs in the sixth inning, but UVU held on, outhitting the Red Foxes 9-5.
