Hot • Desmond Bryant
Does this look like the face of somebody who studied at Harvard?
At least Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Desmond Bryant is smart enough to apologize for his recent legal problems and move on. Bryant's mug shot went viral after he was arrested Feb. 24 for allegedly entering a neighbor's California home in a drunken stupor and causing a commotion.
"I obviously made a mistake," the former Oakland Raider said this week. "I apologize for everything that happened, but I feel like I've learned from it and I've moved on from that."
Actually, he's moving on quite well.
The Browns gave Bryant a five-year, $34 million free-agent contract last week.
Not bad for a guy who went undrafted after playing for the Crimson not the Crimson Tide in college.
Cold • Elvis Dumervil
All employees of The Salt Lake Tribune are required to be Denver Broncos fans. Company policy. Just kidding.
So we're stupefied by the developments with defensive end Elvis Dumervil. Apparently, he agreed to a $4 million pay cut Friday to stay with the Broncs. But the deal fell through when the two sides couldn't get the paperwork done on time. "With the clock ticking on a 1:59 p.m. deadline, the Broncos were not seeing any sign of the signed copy on their fax machine," The Associated Press reported, so they had to cut Dumervil.
The Tribune's Page 2 staff has this response: "Fax machine? Really? Are they stuck in 1994? Are we sure they weren't distracted by watching 'Friends' or listening to Spin Doctors?"
USA Today reported that Dumervil fired his agent Saturday. Elvis surely will land another job soon, but we know he will leave his heart in Denver. Take it from true Bronco fans.
