Frankfort, Ky. • For the just the second time in school history, the Westminster women’s basketball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the NAIA Tournament.
On Friday, the fifth-ranked Griffins (29-3) made the important plays down the stretch to take a 66-60 victory against Faulkner (Ala.).

The No. 2 seed Griffins face No. 1 seed Westmont (Calif.) — which beat No. 4 seed Rogers State (Okla.) 77-70 on Friday — for a place in the semifinals Saturday at 2 p.m. MT in the Frankfort Convention Center.
Allie Eastman gave Westminster the lead for good with 1:18 to play, 57-55, and hit 8 of 12 foul shots.
Cydney Tibbitts and Nicole Yazzie combined for 31 points. The Griffins managed to shoot only 30 percent from the floor, but nine of their 15 baskets were 3-pointers.
