State colleges: San Diego infielder hits three homer runs — including walk-off blast — to beat BYU 7-5

San Diego, Calif. • Kris Bryant hit a three-run, walk-off home run — his third of the game — to lift San Diego over BYU 7-5 on Thursday night in college baseball.

Jacob Hannemann went 4-for-5 with a home run and Jaycob Brugman hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning for the Cougars (9-8).

Jarrett Jarvis put BYU ahead 5-4 with an RBI single in the seventh. But in the ninth, BYU pitcher James Lengel allowed a single, threw a wild pitch, hit a batter and eventually gave up the three-run homer to Bryant — who had six RBIs.

Softball

Baylor 5, Utah 2 • In Honolulu, Chalese Fankhauser hit an RBI double and Kelsi Hoopiiaina had an RBI triple the fifth inning to give the Utes a 2-1 lead, but the No. 19-ranked Bears tied the game in the bottom of the inning and scored three more runs in the sixth to hand Utah its third straight loss at the University of Hawaii tournament.

Naomi Amu allowed two runs and eight hits while striking out two in 42⁄3 innings for the Utes (13-9-1), who were outhit 13-5 by Baylor (23-4).

UT Arlington 1, SUU 0 • In San Diego, Ariel Zimmerman allowed four hits and one run while striking out four in six innings, but the Thunderbirds (6-18) couldn’t produce enough offense.
