State colleges: BYU golf finishes second at California tourney

BYU's Justin Keiley won the Triumph at Pauma Valley in California by one stroke, and the Cougars finished second overall.

• Utah's men's golf team finished 12th at the San Diego Classic, led by Daniel Engle, who tied for 25th.

• Southern Utah men's golf finished fourth at the Sacramento State Invitational in Elk Grove, Calif. Sammy Cole led with a sixth-place finish.

• Weber State finished 10th in the Thunderbird Inviational in St. George, led by Jordan Herzog's 17th-place finish.

Softball

Fairfield 5, Southern Utah 1 • The Thunderbirds gave up four runs in the fourth inning in the loss in San Diego, Calif. The loss was the fourth straight for SUU.

Dixie State 4-3, Hawaii Pacific 2-2 • The Red Storm won their Pacific West doubleheader in Honolulu.

Utah Valley 4, North Dakota 3; UVU 8, Youngstown State 3 • The Wolverines won their games in Kissimmee, Fla.

Baseball

Texas Tech 9, Utah Valley 2 • The Wolverines managed only two hits in seven innings in their loss in Lubbock, Texas.

Salt Lake Community College 14-20, USU-Eastern 2-5 • The Bruins dominated the Golden Eagles in their doubleheader in Price, racking up 31 hits over the two games.

State colleges • Four Cougars end up in top five; Keiley wins.
