Utah baseball routs St. Mary’s

Four Utah players drove in two runs each, leading the Utes to a 14-4 rout of St. Mary’s in college baseball action Sunday in Moraga, Calif.

Tyler Yagi, Connor Eppard, Tyler Relf and Cory Hunt each finished with two RBIs for Utah (7-6), which managed all their runs on just eight hits.

Joe Pond (2-1) picked up the victory for the Utes, allowing five hits and two earned runs in seven innings and striking out seven.

Softball

Utah • Shelby Pacheco went 3-for-5 with a grand slam and 6 RBIs over two games, and the Utes (13-6-1) closed the Mayfair Classic with two victories in Long Beach, Calif., to extend their unbeaten streak to 12 games. Naomi Amu pitched a four-hit complete game in Utah’s 2-1 victory over South Alabama, and Pacheco hit her home run in a 8-0, five-inning victory over Bethune-Cookman.

UC Santa Barbara 4, Weber State 2 • Rudi Barrios drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Wildcats (2-18) couldn’t continue the rally and lost to the Gauchos at the Long Beach State Invitational in Lakewood, Calif.

IUPUI 5, Southern Utah 1 • Mikkel Griffin and Meagan Neilson collected two hits each, but the Thunderbirds (4-14) lost to the Jaguars at the Mizuno Invitational in Riverside, Calif.

UVU 3, Arkansas 1 • Dynasty Lauvai hit a two-run homer for the Wolverines (6-8), and Tiffany Mills struck out six in a complete-game victory over the Razorbacks in Fayetteville, Ark.

Men’s golf

UVU • Utah Valley shot the fourth-best team round of the day and finished in eighth place overall at the Brandon Dunes Championship in Brandon, Ore. The Wolverines posted a final-round 288 to finish at plus-22 for the tournament. Mason Casper led UVU with a final-round 69 to finish in a tie for 11th-place at 1-over-par 217.
