MLB to expand use of instant replay for 2014

Glendale, Ariz. • Major League Baseball intends to expand the use of instant replay for the 2014 season, and will be studying which calls to review and how to do it over the course of this year.

Joe Torre, an MLB executive vice president, said Tuesday that league officials plan to visit Miami during the World Baseball Classic and various spring training sites to examine camera angles and other factors that will help them develop a plan.

Commissioner Bud Selig has said he wants to add video reviews for trapped balls and fair-or-foul calls.

Torre said the league is mainly "looking at is some of the obvious stuff you can see right away," but that it’s a balancing act to make sure replay doesn’t interrupt the flow of the game. Torre also shot down any notion that balls and strikes will be reviewed, joking that "you still have to have something to yell about."

Red Sox pitcher arrested for DUI

Jail records says Red Sox left-hander Drake Britton was arrested in Fort Myers, Fla., for driving under the influence.

The 23-year-old was arrested early Saturday morning. He was also charged with reckless driving and DUI with property damage. He posted bond later that day. His arrest report says Britton was speeding when a deputy tried to stop him for "numerous traffic violations." The report says Britton drove his car over a curb and knocked down a fence. He then drove over it before making a complete stop.

Pujols 0 for 3 in first spring training game

Recovering from offseason surgery on his right knee, three-time MVP Albert Pujols went 0 for 3 in his first spring training appearance of 2013 as the Los Angeles Angels beat the Cincinnati Reds 6-4 Tuesday.
